7/18/06 Song

The song for today is "C'Mon" by the Rustic Overtones. I think it came out around 2000.... right at the end of high school. Sort of a rock ska reggae tune. Imagine 311, Rancid, and Bob Marley rolled in to one.

Today's song is "Good Day" by Tally Hall. It's relatively new. I think it's a good song because it's different... not the typical verse verse chorus verse bridge chorus chorus stuff you hear every day. I think it's pretty cool... give it a listen...

7/12/06 Song

Today, I offer a pretty good Weezer Song, "Saturday Night". I guess they wrote it sometime between the Green Album and Maladroit. It's suprising that it didn't make either album considering how catchy it is.

7/11/06 Song

Today's song is "Lover Undercover" by KGB. It's a catchy Pop/Ska/Rock song I really like. I was introduced to it second semester sophomore year when I was writing a paper on the Aeneid on AK's laptop in the library. Good song.

7/10/06 Song

Today is a sad day. My favorite car in the world, our 1995 Green Dodge Caravan, has died. It is survived by a 2002 Hundai Sonata. Racking up an amazing 172,000 miles, and served the McNamara family. It was loved by it's drivers, especially for it's wonderful pickup, (I'm serious), and ability to cart me and my friends around for 11 years. It made trips to numerous family vacations, college visits, trips to Tufts and back, Phish shows, Cross Country Nationals, and countless other journies. It will be missed.

In honor of the Minivan, I give you "Driving in my Car" by Geggy Tah, one of those great songs from the mid 90s that you've probably forgotten about...

Lack of Updates

I was away in Washington, D.C. for a while, and without my music collection, hence the lack of updates. We'll be back up and running soon.

6/26/06 Song

Today's song is "Frontier Psychiatrist" by The Avalanches. The Avalanches are really good at making sampled songs. Their album, Since I Left You is basically one big exercise in sampling, but it works. You have to give a lot of the songs a little while to establish themselves, but once they (and you) do, it's pretty enjoyable. Their "radio hit" (at least back in 2001) is pretty palpable. Give it a listen.

6/25/06 Song

No song yesterday because it was the Apocalype Party.

Today's song is "Song for a Young Queen" by Chris Thile. It's bluegrass/folk/mandonlin. Chris Thile is a prodigious mandolin player. He put out and wrote songs when he was 16 that no one else in the world could even play. Pretty amazing. If you've heard Nickel Creek, you've heard Chris Thile... he's in the band. The song is from his album "Not All Who Wander are Lost", which is excellent. Check it out, you'll like it.

6/22/06 Song

Today's song is "Love is Only a Feeling" by the Darkness. I have to credit Jon Rosen for introducing me to this gem. It's basically a kick-ass rock ballad. Complete with wow-that-sounds-an-entire-octive-too-high male singing, ripping guitar solos, and lyrics about love. Here it is...

"Love is Only a Feeling" - The Darkness

Enjoy

PS Today was kind of a sad day. It was Annie Kryzanek's last day at Foley. Our team is down one member. I guess all good things come to an end.

6/20/06 Song

Today's song is "Hiro's Song" by Ben Folds. Rockin' the Suburbs is an amazing album, and this song is part of that album. "But Brian, I went to my favorite local record store and picked up the album the day it came out, and yet, I've never heard this song before." Well, that's because it wasn't released on the American version, just the Japanese one. So, the only way you'd have heard it was if you bought the Japanese version, or had been lucky enough to hear it on a radio station cool enough to play it *Cough*WEQX*Cough*. (Or I guess you could have downloaded it at any point during the last 5 years, but I'm trying to be cool here, ok?) Anyway, the song is excellent, and like most Ben Folds songs it tells a pretty funny story. Great lines include "I left my family for the secretary!" I think you'll really like it.

6/19/06 Song

Today's song is "Uncle Penn" by Bill Monroe. It's bluegrass. It's good. I really like it... my only complaint is that Bill Monroe's voice isn't even more nasely. (I'm completely serious, I like the sound of it in bluegrass...) Anyway, listening to different types of music is good for you. You probably haven't heard this song before, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. Who knows, you might even like it.

6/18/06 Song

Hey all. World Cup watching has been pretty sweet. USA played well Italy, I got to watch the game at a bar in Cambridge, it was really fun. All the people were going nuts when the USA would do well...

Ok, today's song is a new one for the Chili Peppers. Sure you've heard Dani California, but this one is newer, and better. You may have heard it, if you haven't it'll be on FNX in a week or too.

"Tell Me Baby" from their new album Stadium Arcadium. The chorus is great, the interplay between the bass and the drums is really fun, it's like a cross between rock, James Brown, and P Funk. Nice.

6/16/06 Song

Sorry for not posting the last 2 days. Wednesday was a firm softball game, and yesterday was teh Corporate Challenge (I placed 7th out of 12,000 running 18:10 for 3.5, 5:12 pace. Holler!).

Today's song is "When You Wasn't Famous" by The Streets, a British rap group headed by Mike Skinner. Their latest album "The Hardest Way to Make an Easy Living", is good, although not nearly as good as their first "Original Pirate Material", or their second "A Grand Don't Come for Free". The new single is pretty solid though. Check it out.

6/13/06 Song

Today's song is "Ooh" by De La Soul ft. Redman. I really really like the beat, especially 2 minutes into the song when the beat drops out a little and the focus is on the funk/bass. Excellent. Also, Redman's flow is pretty unique. So, without further ado, enjoy...

Back At It

Ok, so the blog has been non-existent for the past month or so. Well, after scouring the internet to find a song that I hadn't heard since 9th grade on 102.7 WEQX (aka the best station EVER) back in Saratoga, I've found inspiration. I love music. All kinds of music. I figure I can share this love of music with you guys by posting songs that I think are good, but that you probably haven't heard. There will be all types. Funk, Rap, Rock, Hip-Hop, Classical, Blue Grass. So, check out the blog each day for a new song that you'll probably like.

Today's song is "Sunday Shining: by Finley Quaye, which is a quasi cover of Bob Marley's "Sun is Shining'. I think it's pretty sweet.

LINK FIXED

(I'd link it, but Putfile is being stupid. If I can get it online, I will... in the meantime, buy it on ITunes or download it using your favorite file sharing software (limewire, cough cough)).

The End

Well, I think the blog has run its course. I'm not motivated to post anymore. If I think of anything cool to post, I'll do it, but don't expect daily updates anymore. It was cool to have this blog, and I thank anyone who took the time to read it.

Many of you probably wonder exactly what it was like training for the Boston Marathon. This video was the most accurate representation of what my training was like each day. (For those of you not in Boston, please be aware that this video is shot around Allston and Brighton Mass, which we run through on almost a daily basis. Our"Brookline" loop goes through about 3 of the intersections in the video...)

Enjoy

PS Skip just told me not to stop the blog, and to write about something else that I like, music perhaps. We'll see... stay tuned... no promises though...

Grey's

Ok, so I've been watching Grey's this whole season. It's 10:30, and I just realized I should have done a running blog like Bill Simmons. Here goes.

10:30 - Who gives a crap about the dog. I don't. And the whole thing about Prom is just stupid. In fact, ever since thiey resolved the medical issues this episode has been a pain to watch. Yang has sucked. A lot. Way to crack during surgery jerk. Meredith sucks (as always).

10:32 Hahah Shepherd just said to dispose of the dog. Haha. Oh wait, soft spot... now he's gonna burry it. Ok, I guess that's fine. PS Addison is amazing. Look at those eyebrows and pursed lips. Wow. Meredith and McDreamy? Back together? Let's see.... uh oh, hands together on the dead dog. What does that mean? (PS stop the McDreamy/Dog anaolgy. I get it ok.)

(Commercial break. I guess I can try to recap the episode, although it's tough to do so in 4 minute segments. I thought Sunday night's episode was great. Really drawn in by Izzie flipping out and cutting the wire, and Burke getting shot. It blows my mind that the interns are going to get off clean with what they did. Izzie should pretty much be kicked out of the hospital, and the show. Probably she'll get kicked out of the hospital and live happily ever after with Denny. I don't like that. I mean, she broke some serious rules. And it's not going to matter. COME ON! That is so unbelievable. Granted the episode hasn't been finished yet, but I can't really see anything bad happening to any of the characters.... we'll see.)

10:38 Ok now it's prom. Barf. It's like to OC.... stupid. Ridiculous excuse to make all the characters look pretty. Meredith is gross looking by the way. Her upper lip is gross. Whoa, I hope McDreamy and Addison cut a rug. Whoa... Callie in the house. Ok, time for George to take a stand... let's see.... "I hate that I'm so into you..." MAKE OUT WOOOOO. (Callie is no good.) Chris O'Donnell is doing well, despite the fact that Meredith is terrible. (Meredith's hair look like Farah Fawcett on a bad day, btw.) They better resolve Addison and Derek. HAHAH this staring thing is pretty amazing. Soooo over the top. (Meredith and McDreamy HOLY SHIT!)

Here we go. Final showdown in a patient's room.... Ok McDreamy monolouge... here we go. Derek is flawed, that's what makes him a great character. THE KISS! (DAMN what's going to happen to Addison now? Shit.) Wow. This is pretty serious. Meredith is unbelievable. (Underwear around the ankles by the way) Sex on a patient's table? This is pretty steamy for ABC. Are Denny and Izzie going to get freak nasty right now? Oh wait, he's gonna die. Later Denny. Beeeeeeeeep. (Crap). Izzie's not gonna like this is she? Ok commercial break.

10:52 Annnnd we're back. Callie walks in. Haha nice look at the McDreamster there babe. Chief and Bailey. Confession of sins? Consoling from Bailey (who is the man by the way)? Denny's dead. Bummer. What happens to Izzie now? Hmmmm. Izzie, stop beating your self up over Denny (or at least the dress thing). Truth from Kourev? What up now Kourev haters? (Cue music, and probably a montage.) Wait, I thought Alex was soulless? Not so much. Poor Izzie, that actually does suck for her.

BURKE! You are the man. Your hand is better, right? Yang rushes to his side. Way to help now. Things will work out, even if you froze during surgery. WHOA Addison and McDreamy. Izzie confesses. Is she kicked out now? IF they reinstate her, I officially dislike this show. Ok she quits. Will George and Alex let her? Robin.... she isn't picking out. McDreamy gets his way. Wait. Does he? AHHHH F-ING pick. They left us hanging. What a suprise. NOT.

Decent episode. Liked last night's way better. I guess I'll watch next season to find out.

I wish I had done a better job on commentary... what can you do?

Hi

Ok, I guess it's about time for an update. Running has been going ok... no great. I still feel a little fatugued each time I go out, but it's been getting better. I did 10 on Sunday with Hog and felt decent the whole time.

My next race (I think) will be the JPMorgan/Chase Corporate Challenge on June 15th. I'm a proud member (and captain) of team Foley Hoag LLP. The thought of running a race really isn't very appealing to me right now, but I think my legs will be a little more responsive in a month. They better be, or that race is going to suck.

Life outside of running has been pretty good as of late. The last two weekends we went out to: Tia's (fun but crowded after work), The Hong Kong (disgusting as usual), Mantra ($20 cover, go-go dancers on platforms, and $200 jeans.... actually not that fun), Gypsy Bar (many a Foley night here, trendy, but not so bad, home of Bromka's credit card), Beacon Hill Pub (chill Boston Bar.... Pie lives here), An Tua Nua (GREAT bar, mad Tufts kids that night), and Tommy Doyle's (you may end up taking shots with 45 year old guest lecturers at Harvard Business School if you go here). Hollerrr.

back to running?

Sunday I did 3.5 and felt better. Today I did 5 and felt decent. I'll go for my first morning run since the marathon tomorrow.

Stupid Yankees lost tonight.

Some of you might be wondering about the state of this blog. Well, the state of this blog has been weak recently. Lack of content. Lack of updates. I realize this, and will be making a legitimate effort in the near future to revive it.

Sorry

Hi all. Sorry for the lack of updates. I was visiting Villanova Law School this weekend and into Monday/Tuesday. One of my pet peeves is a blog that just dies, and I hope this doesn't become one (it won't). Went for a 3 mile run today and my legs felt terrible. Walking is fine, but my quads felt fatugued.

Something

Sorry for not posting. On Saturday I'll do some follow up stuff.

For now my legs are still quite sore. Today was the first day that I could negotiate stairs without terrible shooting pain in both of my legs. I hope they continue to improve...
